Review

New York Times Editors’ ChoicePEN/Robert W. Bingham Prize for Debut Fiction Finalist Winner of the VCU Cabell First Novelist Award Selected as A Best Book of 2016 by: NPR • BuzzFeed • PopSugar • Refinery29 • Electric Literature • Self • Elle "A fresh Little Miss Sunshine." — Sloane Crosley, in Vanity Fair “Bright and funny…when the Wangs take the world, we all benefit.”—USA Today “Richly entertaining . . . Chang’s smart and engaging novel remains defiantly cheerful. Perhaps this is because its ultimate subject, across a colorful span of geographies and cultural settings, is love.”—The Guardian "Jade Chang is unendingly clever in her generous debut novel....As much as THE WANGS VS. THE WORLD is about Asian-American identity, it is also a sprawling family adventure compressed into a road trip novel.  The result is a manic, consistently funny book of alternating perspectives as the Wangs make various cross-country stopovers in their 80s station wagon...[A] compassionate and bright-eyed novel." —New York Times Book Review (Editors' Choice)“Sharply funny.”—New York Times "Fresh, energetic, and completely hilarious, The Wangs vs. the World is my favorite debut of the year." — Jami Attenberg, author of Saint Mazie and The Middlesteins "A moneyed Chinese-immigrant clan loses it all, then takes a healing, uproarious road trip across the United States." —Entertainment Weekly "With mischievous, Dickensian glee, Chang’s prose power-drives the appealingly dysfunctional family, now a disgrace to the wet dream of capitalism, through their postfall paces . . . Chang’s confident, broad-stroke, and go-for-broke style makes her fresh twist on the American immigrant saga of the woebegone Wangs one of 2016’s must-reads . . . You will laugh your ass off while learning a thing or two about buying into, and then having to bail on, the American dream. But mostly, you’ll get to savor, thanks to a wildly innovative plot twist, the I Chang of this diabolical dramedy: how it’s love, not money, that really makes the world, and all the people in it, go round."—Elle “It all comes crashing down for Charles Wang, so he and his family hit the road. This endearing debut is more fun than you’d expect from a trip with this backdrop.”—Marie Claire “On the brink of financial ruin, Charles Wang has a plan to start over in his homeland of China. But first, he has to reunite the fam via a madcap, cross-country road trip from their palatial Bel Air digs.”—Cosmopolitan "a highly entertaining debut novel . . . A meditation on what it means to be an immigrant in America, The Wangs vs. the World shows the often surprising ways hardship can bring a dysfunctional family closer together." —BuzzFeed "[Chang's] book is unrelentingly fun, but it's also raw and profane — a story of fierce pride, fierce anger, and even fiercer love....The Wangs vs. the World drives home the fact that there is no one immigrant experience — just humanity in all its glorious, sloppy complexity, doing its best to survive and thrive despite the whims of society and circumstance. With plenty of laughs, both bitter and sweet, along the way."—NPR.org "One of the best debut novels of 2016, this warmhearted, wide-ranging novel tells the wholly modern story of the Wang family: Father Charles has had his fortune decimated by the financial crisis, so he wants to corral his family, return to China, and start all over. But first, everyone—Charles, his wife, and their three children—has to sort out the tangles of their lives." —Estelle Tang on Elle.com  "Chang is a former journalist, but her debut novel has already been praised by the wonderful Jami Attenberg, so you know it's going to be good. The book deals with the trials and triumphs of a Chinese-American immigrant family who made it big and then lost it all. and then decided to take a road trip. It's poignant, hilarious, and a truly noteworthy debut." —Nylon.com "Chang proves a family doesn't need to be dysfunctional to be interesting, that genuine and fervent love among family members will make you root for their successes even more. I couldn't get enough of the Wangs. The book is done but I miss them like old friends."—BuzzFeed  "The Wangs had it all: a cosmetics empire and a huge fortune, but the financial crisis ruined all that. Now Charles Wang is taking his family on a road trip across America so that he can get his children safely stowed away and start his life anew in China. The Wangs vs. the World is a funny and touching novel about what it means to belong in America." —PopSugar “Jade Chang’s firecracker of a debut knowingly and refreshingly breaks every unwritten rule of the Asian-American family saga, making for a blistering, high-energy read that’s worthy of its pre-publication hype.”—Newsday "Meet the Wangs: a wealthy, Chinese-American family who lose everything in the 2008 financial crisis. In Chang’s big-hearted, hilarious debut, they leave their foreclosed Bel Air home and head out on a cross-country road trip in a desperate attempt to start over and save face."—PureWow "A funny and heartwarming debut novel by writer Jade Chang, The Wangs vs. the World tells the story of one immigrant family — the Wangs — who achieved the ultimate American dream, only to have it snatched away from them entirely by the financial crisis. Gone with their dreams is also their family unity, and all Charles Wang—the head of this fractured family — wants to do is return to China and begin anew. But first he must take an epic road trip across the United States, from California to New York, that will force him to not only look at America, but at his American dreams (and family) in a new (and even better) light."—Bustle “Hilarious.”—Bust "Art, stand-up comedy, beauty, style blogs and financial ruin come together in a road trip from Bel-Air to upstate New York. Running away has never been so entertaining."—Fort Worth Star Telegram "I love The Wangs vs The World so, so much. If you're looking for something that you won't be able to put down, definitely pick this one up...it might be my favorite debut of the year. It just kind of rings all the bells for me: it's smart, the writing is great, the story is really interesting, the characters are funny, it doesn't take itself too seriously but it's about a serious thing. I just really, really loved it."—Rebecca Schinsky, BookRiot “A funny, feeling novel about an immigrant family (and its patriarch) who must choose between old and new, a clean slate and solidarity.”—Brooklyn Magazine   “Funny, brash, honest, full of wit and heart and smarts. This is a novel I wish I could write, have been dying to read, and hope everyone else reads, too."—Charles Yu, author of Sorry Please Thank You and How to Live Safely in a Science Fictional Universe "Jade Chang's debut novel is a heartbreaking, hilarious, and honest American epic: a road trip that's an ultimate escape from our parents' American dream, toward an unknown destination that's both more vulnerable and more hopeful."—J. Ryan Stradal, author of Kitchens of the Great Midwest "After losing his mega-fortune earned from a cosmetics empire, Charles Wang uproots his wife and his two California-born-and-raised kids from their Bel Air mansion. The Wangs drive across the country to move in with the oldest daughter of the clan, escaping a bad Manhattan breakup in a remote Catskills house. While the destination is intriguing, it’s the road trip antics that will keep you laughing as you ride the rails with this hilarious debut novel."—A.M. New York  "In just one novel, with the Wangs barreling down I-10 East to wherever life begins again for them, Chang has established a delightful, lasting relationship with readers. Wherever she goes next will be worth following." - Rory Aronsky, BookBrowse.com "This debut novel is so funny and so wise and so sad about the collapse of the American Dream from the vantage point of a wealthy Chinese-American family, who expected and got everything they wanted -- until they didn't. Plus it's a hell of a road trip novel, as the Wangs, shellshocked by bankruptcy, have to find their way back to some inner understanding of one another. I adored this book and look forward to reading it again and to Chang's next fiction adventures."—Sarah Weinman, TheCrimeLady “The Wangs vs. the World is one of the most thrilling, skilfully wrought novels I've read in ages....The Wangs were so real to me that I keep expecting them to turn up at my door. I'll be ready with my bags if they do.”—Emma Jane Unsworth, author of Animals "In Chang’s sparkling debut novel, a family whose fortune has been lost in the 2008 financial crisis takes a cross-country road trip in an effort to regroup . . . Chang’s charming and quirky characters and comic observations make the novel a jaunty joy ride to remember."—STARRED, Publishers Weekly “A wealthy Chinese immigrant family finds their fortunes dashed and their future in question—with surprisingly hilarious results—in this rollicking debut novel.”—BookPage  “A Chinese-American family tumbles from riches to rags in Chang's jam-packed, high-energy debut . . . Switching among the points of view of all the Wangs and several supporting players, racing back and forth in time and across the country and the world, dropping into Chinese, stuffing in stand-up routines and savvy details on finance, journalism, the beauty industry, and the art world, this debut novelist holds nothing back. Head-spinning fun”—Kirkus Reviews “Charming . . . Fans of sweeping family sagas will be rewarded.”—Library Journal "readers with a taste for outsize family dysfunction, à la Cynthia D’Aprix Sweeney’s The Nest (2016) and Emma Straub’s The Vacationers (2014), will whip through this one with smiles on their faces." —Booklist  One of Entertainment Weekly's Most Anticipated Titles of 2016 A BuzzFeed Incredible Book for Fall An Elle.com Must-Read Book for Fall A Bustle Book for Your Fall TBR list A Hollywood Reporter Most Buzzed About Book for Fall A PopSugar Best Book for Fall A The Millions Most Anticipated Book A Nylon Amazing Book for Fall A The Frisky Book to Read for Fall A Fall 2016 Barnes & Noble Discover PickAn October Indie Next PickA Publishers Lunch Fall 16 Buzz BookAn iBooks Most Anticipated Book for Fall A BookRiot Book to Read This Fall One of Library Journal’s “Five Big Debuts” for Fall 16 A BookPage "Woman to Watch" for 2016

Charles Wong came from China to America and grew a fortune in the make-up business. Unfortunately, he makes a few stumbles with his business in 2008 when the economy built on false mortgages comes crashing down, and he loses everything—his house, the cars, all his factories. He has three children from his first wife, who died eight weeks after the birth of their last child. The kids have never known deprivation, which is perhaps why all of them feel free to pursue the arts—and use their money to do so. Saina is an artist whose fourth show not just bombed but had people protesting in the streets. At the same time her career is in shambles, her fiancé leaves her for his pregnant girlfriend, the daughter of a wealthy mattress magnet. Saina sells her Manhattan loft at a huge loss and retreats to a farmhouse in upstate New York, thinking she’ll farm organic vegetables—except she has no idea how. But the house just happens to have room for her entire family.Charles and Barbra, the children’s stepmother, begin in LA. The plan is to drive across country to Saina’s with a few stops along the way. (And then Charles thinks he’ll go to China and reclaim family land stolen by the Communists.) The first stop is to pick up his 16-year-old daughter Grace, who he shipped off to boarding school two years earlier when she fell in love with a boy. Grace is a typical teenager, obsessed with her fashion blog, Style & Grace. The next stop is Arizona State University, where his 21-year-old son Andrew goes to school. Andrew isn’t serious about this studies because he wants to be a stand-up comedian. We see Andrew perform. The first few times we know the audience hates him, but even the time when he allegedly did well, I found reading his routine cringe-worthy. Obviously stand-up is a very different medium than novel writing, but it was painful, so I had to speed read through it.The book wasn’t as funny as I expected it to be by the description, but I did think the writing was wonderful, and it was an intriguing perspective on that time in our nation’s history told through the story of immigrants Charles and Barbra and three adults or almost-adults who grew up here and have never wanted for anything—they have no idea how to budget, etc. because they never had to.This is a fun, compelling read.

I thought that this book was just ok. The fathers storyline was interesting but the rest of the book left me disappointed. I kept hoping the other family members situations would connect to the fathers story just to get back to his subject line. I thought the ending was finally going to bring the family together for an interesting read but then it just cut off. The end. Could have been better with such a good storyline.

This book started out with so much promise. I was totally along for the ride with Wangs and this literary look at the immigrant experience through the interactions of second generation siblings with each other and their parents. Chang was just mining all sorts of wonderful insights and it was good. It was really good. But then it all sort of fell apart. The story of the Wangs is the story of the American Dream with all the good, the bad and the ugly. It is a testament to the power of hard work, ingenuity and opportunity for those willing to pursue it. It shines a light on the dark underbelly of greed and its corrupting force. And finally, it picks at so many of the strains of evil that course through American society and break us apart in our communities, hurt our hearts and undercut all that we work for. Chang zeroes in on consumerism, the over sexualization and lack of connectedness of our youth, the perfection paradigm of social media and the lies we tell ourselves about what it means to be successful. In the process Chang also highlights the transitory nature of wealth, our short attention spans, and the ways we convince ourselves that our personal happiness is of supreme importance and hang the consequences of our decisions. Each of the five Wangs exemplify these things in varying degrees, but each is unique. For much of the story I felt like Chang was building these fascinating characters built by their immigrant status and the powerful forces of modern day American culture. The way modernity ravaged each character in unique ways was fascinating and I was really impressed with her writing and where she was going with her commentary… but then she just stopped going there. Maybe I felt that way because I have the common western sensibility that likes a trajectory and lessons and “closure” in my novels. And maybe Chang is more insightful in giving us real life with messy ends and death and no real answers that are helpful or satisfying, but there was such a sense of building momentum and she was doing such a grand job that I was honestly a little shocked to get to the end and find that there was no more. Perhaps the fault is with me for not getting it, and I am disappointed that I did not get it, because in so many ways it was clever and funny and original, but leaving me hanging made it a 3.5 star read for me.

This was a great book written by a forthcoming Asian-American author. I am already familiar with most of the Asian characteristics in this book. The only discovery that was astonishing was the sexual experiences of the son, Andrew Wang. That was new for me. All in all, this book was an easy read although I was marveling at the author's vast knowledge of the worlds she covered in here. The Asian-American experience I got from this book was that Asians are wealthy, successful, and aggressive in pursuing wealth and success. There is also the immigrant experience that I am very familiar with.I recommend this book to all those who are curious about the Asian-American perspective because this is it folks! A great book written by an Asian! I ordered this book because I was watching a booktuber on youtube one day and it dawned on me that there are notable books by minority writers that are being published at the moment. I usually only read books by White authors with a few Black writers like Toni Morrison and Langston Hughes but now I am getting in the mood for Asian writers as well.I will be patiently waiting for Jade Chang's next full novel because reading her book here was so much fun.

Martha's story about her daughter Tamar brought tears to my eyes several times while reading it. Now that Martha has passed from this earth (2014), the story is even more poignant and heartwarming. Tamar has been launched into life -she is in her twenties now. There are specific examples of the techniques Martha used with Tamar. Many pictures of their lives in Israel over the years are included. This helps the reader get to know this mother and daughter, not only in Martha's words but also seeing Tamar's transition from an abandoned baby to the young woman she is today. Dr. Lev-Zion's book will help others as they deal with children with Down syndrome. What a wonderful legacy!

This is a wonderful story of how perseverence and love can help "save" the life of a child who otherwise would be consigned to a life in an institution. The warmth and spirit of the author will be an inspiration to everyone but especially those raising a handicapped child. It is an amazing story of how a little girl, abandoned by her family because of being born with down's syndrome,is adopted by a single mother and given a chance for a normal life. That Tamar has grown up to become such an exceptional young woman is a credit to her mother and to her own personality which shines throughout the book. It is truly a worthy "read".

This book is extraordinary. The author, Martha Lev-Zion, a single woman in Israel, adopted an unwanted Down Syndrome baby. Against odds, she refused special education for Tamar, who was mainstreamed for most of her classes. Martha worked continuously as well to teach her every day, such as having Tamar count each stair as they walked upstairs. Now that she is 20 Tamar is a friendly, cheerful young lady who can talk both Hebrew and English fluently, has many friends and holds down a regular job. "No" is not in her vocabulary. I should know, because I met Tamar in May, 2006. This book should be must reading for any one dealing with a Down Syndrome child. It is both realistic, and very encouraging. J. Andrews, M.D./ Concord, MA

It's really about two special caring remarkable people! A well written and very personable account.

"This comprehensive text, as the author hopes, is likely to raise awareness among other physicians and among general readers, particularly women who will now have the knowledge necessary to become powerful self-advocates."―Publishers Weekly"An empowering, pro-women look at an often misdiagnosed condition that can cause infertility and devastating pain."―Booklist"As people, but especially as women, we have to be our own medical advocates. Whether it's my friends making their way through the birth industrial complex or the ones deciding how to handle a chronic illness like Lyme, educating ourselves is power. Plus (and I'm a broken record on this), our pain ― especially if it's located between belly button and ass crack ― is often not treated with the seriousness we would hope. My particular journey to navigate has been endometriosis, and Tamer Seckin's The Doctor Will See You Now: Recognizing and Treating Endometriosis, written with sensitivity and spirit, is an amazing primer if you or someone you love is suffering. In a world where information is everywhere yet answers are hard to come by, Dr. Seckin offers comfort and guidance.―Lena Dunham"The book’s inspiring text is purposefully crafted so that every reader can relate and understand endometriosis not only medically, but also emotionally." -National Pain Report"One of the best endometriosis surgeons is Dr. Tamer Seckin, a premier gynecologist specializing in endometriosis. Throughout my practice and teaching career, I have personally observed numerous top surgeons, both in Europe and North America, performing difficult endometriosis surgery in their operating rooms and, without hesitation, I can recommend Dr. Seckin as one of the best of the best."―C.Y. Liu, MD, Professor, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, University of Tennessee, College of Medicine. Director Emeritus, Fellowship Program in Minimally Invasive Gynecology, Chattanooga, Tennessee. Past President, American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL)"Dr. Seckin blends his knowledge and surgical skills with compassion and understanding of patient concerns. His many years of hands on experience and patient interaction combine to make this book a very worthwhile read."―Harry Reich, MD, First U.S. gynecologic surgeon to use the laparoscope to excise deep endometriosis of the ovary and rectum.“In this moving and informative book, Dr. Seckin provides an important resource for women with endometriosis - a common, widely misunderstood, and understudied condition. Recent research has revealed a major genetic component to endometriosis; now is the time for the scientific community to put serious resources into better understanding this complex inflammatory disorder. Targeted research can lead to earlier diagnosis, improved treatments, and eventually, preventative care to put an end to Endo.“―Peter K. Gregersen MD, Professor of Molecular Medicine, Hofstra-Northwell School of Medicine; Head, Robert S. Boas Center for Genomics and Human Genetics, Feinstein Institute for Medical Research.“Endometriosis cripples women without a proper diagnosis. Dr. Tamer Seckin’s The Doctor Will See You Now sheds light on this painful condition and advances the fight to help women with endometriosis through personal accounts and his breadth of knowledge. I’ve worked with Dr. Seckin’s co-founder of the Endometriosis Foundation of America, Top Chef star, Padma Lakshmi, to help women understand that there is hope and I know this book will do the same.”―State Senator Jeff Klein

You will learn what you need to know about Endometriosis. Your current doctor may not even know as much as you'd know about the disease, after reading this book. It's written to general public. The language and the tone is very friendly. It can be a little depressing to read edge cases and if you're like me you'll find yourself reading tons about what the book is referring to. It wasn't a fun ride for me learning about the details in this book, and I couldn't stop myself thinking a lot about the condition. But somebody has to do it; if it's not your current doctor then it'll be you until finding a specialist. There are very good advice in the book. One of them is diet change. Being gluten free is almost a must with this condition. Inflammation from gluten sensitivity aggregates the side effects by possibly feeding the scar tissue internally. It's a hormonal problem but it builds up over the years. So does gluten sensitivity results. Dairy, is another thing to be stay away from. When it comes to surgery options you'll face most of the doctors offering laparoscopy with laser (heated devices). This part, my friends, is to me the most important part of the book. I would have no clue about questioning the surgery techniques. Why would I, right? Doctors would know the best. Hmm, read what it does to you when a heated device touched our organs and the endometrial scar tissue. If you can, watch the videos of Dr. Seçkin; in medical conferences he explains why cold scissors are used v.s. high energy devices (i.e. laser).Bottom line is, what I leaned from this book came with a timely manner. I didn't think I may need a surgery within a year but I'm now in a month away. If you can go visit Dr. Seçkin in his downtown NY office. Thanks for reading and all the best.

This is the best book I’ve read written by a medical professional about endometriosis, a disease which affects 10% of fertile women in this country. Like most experts in his field, he’s very confident in his approach and methods and he provides compelling case examples to demonstrate this. However, I would have appreciated knowing about those truly impossible cases, where endometriosis is systemic and therefore seems inoperable or too risky. Maybe they haven’t existed in his experience but I find that difficult to believe. I give Dr. Seckin credit for being brave enough to include a chapter about one client who had serious life-threatening complications following a surgery he performed. I just expect he’s had more than one such experience and I wonder about the claim that every case of endometriosis is operable if done by the right surgeon with the right expertise (ie: him).

I was diagnosed with advanced endometriosis two weeks ago. My doctor thought I may have adenomyosis until he did surgery and found the endometriosis. I had frozen pelvis, cervical stenosis, and an ovarian endometrioma. I've felt bad for years and was misdiagnosed with fibromyalgia, depression, and arthritis. Long story short - I only had gastro symptoms in my younger years and only started having cramps about 2 years ago (I'm 44). Never had problems with infertility. I had NO CLUE that I had this, nor did any doctor ever mention the word "endometriosis" to me. When I woke up from surgery and the doctor told me, I wasn't even sure what it was. That's when I found this book on Amazon. Definitely 5 stars. I want to give a copy to every woman I know and every gynecologist in existence! Can't believe the MDs don't even understand this disease. I felt better immediately after surgery. I was having trouble even walking before this. Thank God, I had been referred to a gynecological oncologist who is a superb surgeon and so he knew what he was doing. I didn't realize what a blessing it was to have him until I read in this book how most surgeons don't know how to properly deal with endometriosis, not even gynecologists! This book should be required reading for OB/GYN medical students. Have been blowing up Facebook with information about this ever since! Buy this book and give it to anyone who is having mysterious health problems that have to do with IBS/gastro problems, infertility, fibromyalgia, etc. I asked my doctor how long I've had this and he said probably years. And I had no clue!

I enjoyed this book, and read through it quickly in 2 sittings, but feel like it doesn't provide much information beyond what you can find online. I like that he explained the big tell-tale symptoms by looping in stories from patients, but I was hoping for some insight, or at least a quick blurb listing the other symptoms that you don't hear discussed as often. The only new information I got from this is the real difference between the difference surgical options to remove the endometriosis.I agree with other reviewers that there are parts where it feels like he's just promoting himself, and after a while it got a bit annoying. For the price it wasn't bad because I was able to relate to the stories, and he discussed the difference in surgical treatment options

A Guide to Florida Workers' Compensation by Wade Coye is a very interesting book about what people who have been injured on the job need to do in order to ensure that they get compensated in the best way possible. This book is laid out in simple sections that make it very easy for the reader to follow along and understand what is being said. It is obvious that Coye has a strong background in this field and that he wants those who have been injured to have as much information as possible at their disposal. Coye goes into the paperwork that needs to be filled out and where it needs to go so that the process of getting compensation can begin. He discusses the timelines that need to be met and how to make sure that nothing slips through the cracks of the process. He then goes on to discuss what the law states companies need to do and then goes on to explain what they can do if they are so inclined. The sad reality is that many times insurance and companies will only do what the law says they have to do, which often is not very much. So, reading this book can increase the injured person's chances of not just getting the bare minimum but getting exactly what they need in order to make the best recovery as quickly as possible. This is not a ploy from the author to try and get more clients, he is honestly trying to make people as informed as he can so that they can do what they need to and get the compensation they deserve. If you live in Florida and have been injured on the job, I highly encourage you to read this book.

Wade Come’s book A Guide to Florida Worker’s Compensation is an extremely concise, practical look at the inherent problems millions of displaced workers face when seeking care and compensation due to on-the-job injuries. I’ve been through the ringer with a work-related repetitive injury—including a failed disability case and worker’s comp claim that left me without pay for a period of 6 months. After spending a year of effort appealing to both state and county programs as well union representatives on behalf of my debilitating back and neck injuries, leaving me unemployed, I was increasingly frustrated with the lack of validation and support I received. This book is by far the most eye-opening and helpful piece I’ve read about tackling a worker’s compensation case. I really appreciated Come’s empathy for people like me, and his recognition of just how flawed the health care systems that are currently in place are when it comes to providing sufficient and justified compensation. He not only explains how to appropriately navigate through the systems and laws but provides a step-by-step process of determining your eligibility and successfully winning a case. I am so thankful I chanced upon this guide, and it has equipped me with tools and knowledge of worker’s rights that I plan to utilize to continue appealing my case (in another state). I highly recommend this to anyone who is struggling to get the workers comp they rightfully deserve, to all state and government employees to learn more empathy for the experience of the injured, and for anyone who wants to be fully aware of how to fight a claim if you ever find yourself in a similar position.

This guide at first seemed just like a pitch to get more clients to this Florida law firm, but after reading it it did offer some very good information to those that may have been injured on the job in the state of Florida. I also like that this book was written by an attorney who knows the laws in this state and can offer useful, legal advice. It is very important that the injured follow the timelines to get compensation which the author does clearly state. I also liked the "secrets" and "lies" portions of the book where there are some good facts and direction given. All in all if you live in Florida and have been injured on the job, I would definitely recommend you read this guide. It could lead to to a settlement or at least legal action on your behalf by offering facts and advice on Florida worker's comp.

A Guide to Florida’s Workers’ Compensation: Sharing the Secrets and Learning the Lies by Wade Coye is a very informative and in depth look into Florida’s workers compensation laws and how it all works. If you find yourself in a battle with your company to cover medical care and missed wages for injuries you received while on the job, this is an amazing book to have in your back pocket to ensure that you’re being treated fairly and that the company is fulfilling their responsibilities as the law states they should. It is also the perfect book for companies to keep on hand to ensure that they are meeting the expectations set forth by the law so they can avoid sticky legal cases. Coye is an attorney who specializes in insurance and injury cases, he has the experience and the knowledge that makes the information he provided trustworthy. It’s a quick read and would benefit anyone who works in Florida.

This book is an amazingly altruistic piece of public service. So many things like the legal ins and outs of workman's compensation are mysterious entities to the common working man, who ironically needs to have a good understanding of these topics.Wade Coye gives expert advice at understanding the system in Florida. His book will tell you how and when to ask the right questions, and how to leverage the system or find the experts that can do it for you, in order to ensure that the system takes care if you, in contrast to its goal of just barely filling legal requirements to do so.If you work in Florida for someone else, this book is crucial for understanding your rights and privileges, in case a work related injury ever comes up. Employers may also benefit from reading and understanding this book.
