I am an estate planning attorney.It is a useful book. However, it would be better if it included words used in California. e.g. Advance Health Care Directive (AHCD) and conservatorship of person vice guardianship. California uses the word guardianship only for minors.

Definitely a helpful little guide for those reaching late middle age and needing to get their lives in order. Easily accessible for any reader.

This is an essential, very helpful book. Arrived very quickly in perfect condition. Thanks!

I picked up this book at the library and will now buy it (since I have to give it back to the library!). The book does a great job of explaining the ins & outs of wills, health-care proxies, living wills, and powers of attorney, and introduces the idea of a digital diary for someone to wrap up all your various digital accounts should you become incapacitated or die. I found myself dog-earing many pages and wanting to show it to my husband. We're both 55 and have not done any of our important paperwork and, through the many "horror story" anecdotes in this book, have now been woken up. The 6 "what to do now" steps listed on page 96 are worth the price of the book alone, and the appendix of the book offers samples of each doc, which is very helpful, too. I suspect that by doing our will now, at age 55, this won't be the last time we have to deal with these essential docs, but at least this book has helped us get the show on the road.

This is essential reading. It's terrifically researched and accessibly written. If you're 55, you should read this. If you're younger than 55, you should read this. If you're older than 55, you should definitely read this. This book is a huge time and money saver. Highly recommended.

Lots of easy recipes in this book. Some of my favorites include: homemade hummus, beef stew with mushrooms and barley, tuscan chicken stew, mushroom and chicken sausage risotto, and rustic herb stuffing. I've made many of the other recipes, too. Don't let the lack of pictures deter you! I've never cooked any grains aside from rice before this book, so the section on beans and grains was a great learning experience for me.

Every recipe I have tried in this book has worked as advertised and flavorful. Being able to cook something that normally takes hours and turn it into minutes is still pretty amazing to me even after 20 years of professionally cooking.

I just finished it and have so much motivation for meals and this lifestyle. Canâ€™t wait to continue this journey! Author is such an inspiration and so refreshing to have a book that explains keto in simple terms and recipes that are easily done! I love this book! We eat the recipes over and over! I canâ€™t cook and this book has allowed me to make yummy things for my and my husband. He is shocked and how delicious my cooking has become ;-) Good book!

I like the variety of recipes presented, with many Asian dishes included. The metric measurements threw me off at first, but she does provide a ounce equivalent. My ebook has color photos and seems to be well laid-out, though the order of the chapters is a little funny, with dessert presented before the meats. That's my preference in food, anyway, so no matter! Thanks

My husband and I recently started a keto diet and are new owners of the instant pot. As a joke, I searched for an instant pot keto recipe book and this was the first item that popped up with good reviews.

I've purchased or borrowed at least half a dozen instant pot cookbooks. Had I known earlier what I know now I would have only needed one? This book goes the extra mile of explaining the settings on the instant pot and what each does. This means I am much more confident using the pot for foods I may not have a recipe for. She also includes recipes for each type of food you could need it for. So rather than having six recipes for, say, pot roast, each using a slightly different seasoning, she has a basic recipe for each cut of meat that might require a slightly different technique.I first purchased the Kindle edition. I would recommend this book for anyone purchasing an Instant Pot and will probably get some for gifts when Christmas gets here.

Swing is another well-crafted novel by the much-acclaimed and beloved author, Kwame Alexander.I had the opportunity to hear him speak/read a few years ago, so I think Iâ€™m automatically biased now that Alexanderâ€™s work is always fantastic.Everything about swing is interesting and unique. I freaking love quirky Walt or â€œSwingâ€...heâ€™s a focused, lovable dweeb whoâ€™s also a dedicated friend and you want to slap him silly and hug him at the same time.Noah is also lovable and his plight of unrequited love hits close to home with almost any YA reader.Iâ€™m still so torn, though. Iâ€™m confused by the abrupt ending. I get that life often deals us blows that destroy us out of nowhere, but I also donâ€™t get it.Hmmmmm

Noah, Walt and Sam (Samantha) have been best friends since elementary school, but ever since they got to high school, Noah hasn't been able to figure out how to tell Sam that he really likes her. No matter how much Walt (aka Swing) encourages him to take a chance, Noah struggles to express his feelings for Sam. Inspired by love letters he finds in a thrift store, Noah finally starts to put his feelings onto paper using both art and poetry. While I related to Noah, I was utterly charmed by Swing's humor and optimism. Readers will want to talk when they reach the end--be there for them, as they find their voice about the larger issues impacting our society.

I have purchased many copies to give teenagers so they can have some real Biblical guidelines for dating. I used this in a High School Sunday School class at my church to teach out of. The class grew from 5 to 15 after the first lesson. A wonderful resource for Sunday School teachers. Some teachers may want to teach boys separate from the girls. I did not separate my class of grades 9-12. Our kids NEED This taught!

Overall, I enjoyed this book. It can be a bit misogynistic at times, but had a lot of good points. I am a Christian, but not a conservative one. This book is definitely geared more towards more conservative Christians, not surprisingly, but it had a lot of good suggestions that are especially relevant to the current shallow modern dating scene.

"10 Commandments of Dating" is my favorite book on dating/relationships. It teaches you the basics from Getting a Life & be ready for others to finding the right one with confidence. Best of all, each chapter is short and concise, making them fun and interesting. Every chapter also includes pros & cons and what to do if you already break the commandment. These 'commandments' all seems like common sense and self-explanatory but the truth is, when someone is in "love", nothing can get in his/her ways, so their judgement is clouded, making them regret later on in life. Honestly in my opinion, it's better to stop or slow down your current relationship and start reading this book before you are clear and sure to move on. You may find your current partner incompatible even though both of you claimed to be, "in love" with one another. In short, this book basically serves as warning signs, checklists, guidelines and self-help that will guaranteed success in dating. If you learn nothing from this book, then either you're a genius and should be proud of yourself for being perfect or you're just denying your own mistakes, which is foolish by itself. All in all, this book is excellent and a must read. Even though the author Ben Young is a Christian, he doesn't talk much about theology or Christian beliefs that often, so even non-religious people can read it with ease, without being offended. The bottomline is, this book is worth every penny, every second and every effort reading it. I finished it in less than two days. It's THAT good! Almost every page is highlighted that it looks like a yellow Post-It. The only string attached is, you must practice and obey these commandments to your life in order to have successful relationships. There may be exceptions here or there, but 99.9% of times, you will succeed. Two of my other favorite books are: "If You Really Loved Me" by Jason Evert and "Waiting and Dating" by Myles Munroe. Wish I had come across this much sooner in life. It is never too late to make better decisions and choices, though.

I bought this book to read along with my boyfriend right at the beginning of our relationship. We were both pretty new to dating, so this helped us to outline our boundaries more clearly. We followed this book by doing the couples devotional by the same authors, "Devotions for Dating Couples." The book contained great, to-the-point advice that helped us and continues to help us maintain God as the center of our relationship. Definitely worth the read.

This is probably a very good read for a young person just starting the season of dating and considering marriage. I am older and some of what is stated doesn't apply, but won't discredit the book for that.

A very Christan based book on dating in the new era. A return to basics and being moralistic when it comes to courtship. I am presently applying this principle at dating at age 40! wish I had read it at age 20! Maybe I would not have spent 9 years married to an incompatible jerk. It seems to be working and I am having fun dating just as friends and really getting to know someone without the pressure of getting physical. If the guy does not believe in these moral principles then he is not worth my time. Thanks for such an insightful book that I plan on using as a stocking stuffer for all my still single girlfriends.

The fact that at 12% (Beth had just cut herself and is going to the house to take care of it) Jack (20 years on the police force) couldn't imagine, again, what could make a grown woman and her children shy away from him, a man, but not from his female housekeeper. Hmm. Did I mention the 20 years on the police force? In the world we live in today, Jack is either completely ignorant to the world as a whole or had never made detective.Now, at 20%, and he still hasn't even entertained the notion of her having been abused by an ex. And he had made detective. Well, even the person with the lowest grades in medical school is still called, "Doctor," right?Yay! At 31% he finally says that she's not behaving like a criminal, more like a victim. One running away from something. Or someone. Yeah, last in the class. Sheesh.What I liked was the way Ms. Leigh built their relationship. It was slow, sensuous, serious, and mature. Was pretty easy to figure out, but I like that.I also felt like there were some plot points that could have been solved in other ways that may have made the story shorter, but it might have made more sense. Loved Uncle James. Wasn't crazy that he had those mystical powers. Didn't really add much to the story, for me, outside of a quietly muttered, "WTH?"Still, I'm intrigued enough to try the second book in this series.

This book was supposed to be an exciting combination of a woman hiding herself and her children from an abusive husband and a serial killer on the loose. Well, both aspects are certainly present. However, nothing happens in the book. It's all talk, talk, talk with no action. Even the scenes that should be action and exciting (like when the serial killer kidnaps his next victim) are boring and slow. Molasses in the winter moves faster than this book. I made it a bit over halfway through, knew what would happen the rest of the way, and stopped reading. Maybe if the book were shorter, it might have helped.The main character Beth isn't particularly compelling, though I did feel sorry for her. I didn't like her or feel like I'd like to have her as a friend. Jack, who owns the estate where she now works, is very appealing and was a very well drawn character. His cousins made great characters as well. Beth's Uncle James is a rather shadowy character, but he is committed to helping Beth, even after she believes he's been kidnapped or killed.I don't recommend this book unless you can tolerate the lack of excitement and action in the story.

Melinda Leighâ€™s books all seem to follow the same formula:1. Strong, fierce, independent woman ends up in jeopardy in spite of her strength, fierceness, and independence2. Strong, handsome man enters the picture3. The two people have never experienced such attraction to another and fall in love in less than a week4. The man becomes obsessed with protecting the woman in jeopardy and saves her at the last minute5. They live happily ever afterI honestly donâ€™t know how the author continues to get these books published or why I have kept reading them. Oh wait, itâ€™s because I bought a bunch at one time at a cheaper price and now feel compelled to read them because I paid for them.Itâ€™s not that sheâ€™s a bad writer. She just tells the same story over and over again. There is no originality to her story telling. She also comes across to me as a bit misogynistic with these women in jeopardy books.

I actually read the second book first and there were references to some of the characters and a past situation that made me curious. These are fast reads and fun - but now on the 3rd book I'm wondering how many serial killers/rapists can there be in 1 small rural town? And how many chivalrous-yet-sensitive-modern men around 30-40 years of age who happen to be excellent cooks and marks-men can there be in said small town? AND how many independent, smart-yet-vulnerable-without-being-needy beautiful brunettes with perfect bodies (despite childbirth) that are just waiting for this perfect guy are there in this town? Time to shake things up with the theme even though it is a trilogy. Seems like the same story with the names changed.

When I first started reading â€œShe Can Runâ€ I thought it would be another of those stories based on the estate, the owner, and the housekeeper plot. I couldnâ€™t have been more wrong. Of course, it did have the estate, owner and housekeeper, but the story line was far from usual. The plot was intricate and interesting, the characters real and believable. The writing was crisp and clean. Lots of steamy romance as an added angle. I enjoyed it and would recommend to my friends.

A young mother is in hiding from her so-called loving and devoted husband. She feels her life is in jeopardy so she takes her children and leaves without a trace.She has to dye her hair and change her name while she is in hiding. Her 2 small children also understand they are on the run. They are a very nervous, quiet three some just trying to find someplace safe to stay.Beth has an uncle that is very protective of her. He also realizes just how dangerous her husband is and the necessity of this young family remaining in hiding.She ends up in what is supposed to be a safe place for her only to find things have changed and doesn't know if she can stay or not. Her life is in jeopardy because the person who hired her has passed away and he is the only one, besides her uncle, that knows of the need to keep her safe.I don't like to give entire stories away...so i will just say this book grabs you right out of the gate.Our heroine is small but gutsy...a very protective mama bear.

A woman (with two children) running from a monster of a husband (rich and powerful), a soon-to-be ex-cop (sidelined due to injury) and a serial killer -- a recipe for lots of suspense and really tense moments. With Melinda Leigh's writing, deft dialogue, and adrenaline producing action, I was entertained for a whole evening. Yep, it was a damsel-in-distress who worked to save herself right along with the hero who loved her. Nicely done and quite satisfying. Yeah, good guys!

My wife and I visited Barbados a year ago and are looking forward to our return! I had sampled some of the cuisine mentioned in the book, but want to be able to try more the next time. The book is a very easy and fun read; after an introduction the author first goes into an alphabetical list of the street foods found in Barbados. Everything from the common to the exotic. Then, and most helpful for the traveler, are various locations in Barbados and the steet foods to be found. Great photography throughout the book makes it both a nice coffee table book and a book to throw in the backpack when exploring Barbados.

It was cool to read through and had some interesting information and facts. I think recipes would make it better.

Decent....that's the best I can say. I'm sure people are tired of Armstrong being compared to Rick Riordan, but these books are in a similar genre and would appeal to a similar audience. I have read a great number of Riordan's books to and with my children. After completing yet another series of his books, we decided to branch out and try some other recommended books that would appeal to the boys.I was honestly disappointed. The books are fine, but pale in almost every way from plot, character development, immersion, etc. to Riordan's books. They also felt a bit short. We read two in the Blackwell Pages series and had enough. We promptly returned to the Riordan's Sword of Summer, having a similar mythology reference point as the Blackwell Pages, and was immediately reminded of why we have read so many Riordan's books. Again, just one opinion of one person. Hope this helps!

Fun way to learn Norse mythology! So much so, that my daughter is now reading a book with the original Norse tales. Must say though, that this is a better version for younger children. After all, the Norse gods were a pretty violent bunch!

This Percy Jackson-like romp is fun, if a bit too long. The main characters literally go to hel and back prepare for the battle ahead. It almost seems as if the author came up with many battle scenes to extend the book. I would have liked to learn more about what made the character Fen tick.

The struggles and determination of the characters are written extremely well. Having the stories told by each character adds that perspective into the story. As for the thirteen year old hero's, this struggle and real life, what do you decide to do with the situation that you are given. Can not wait to read the final book in the series.

Great book for kids into mythology of all types and kinds. Recommended read for children of the ages 7-13. Great cliff-hangers

The author made the book interesting and kept the plot together nicely. They also kept the book clean of profanity.

It is grasping, how the forces are gathering on both sides. Still, the end of the volume is a bit not well written.

Last year I read and reviewed the first book, "Loki's Wolves" and I've been looking forward to this one ever since."Loki's Wolves" ended on a cliffhanger and this one ends in a semi-cliff hanger, one that I did not see coming until it happened. "Odin's Ravens" is fast paced, with the reader and the kids barely having a chance to catch their breath. In addition to all of the action, we get family drama, betrayal, Valkyries, Hel, Norse gods and mythological beings including zombies, and several twists to the story arc.I like Matt more and more and I'm warming up to Fen. Laurie is perhaps my favorite character after Matt, and Baldwin makes me smile, as he should considering which god he is. The twins leave me lukewarm, and so far, they don't seem like hero material but I'm hoping they'll step up when it counts in the next book. Owen, well I'd forgotten all about him. :( But he gets his moment in the sun in this book and I can see his growth into becoming Odin, All-Father. I really enjoyed his interactions with Laurie and Fen. I love how real the kids feel; they may have powers of the gods but they are still human teens, complete with mood swings, doubts, tantrums, and cravings for junk food. Hey, they're American teens. :DThe book also has a plethora of black and white illustrations which add to the text and the story is a fast read, I finished in one sitting. Once again, Armstrong and Marr did a wonderful job weaving in Norse mythology but they also kept a sense of humor. At one point, Matt tells one of the others, "No, you're thinking of the comic book Thor." (paraphrased cuz I forgot to mark the quote in my book) Oh, and there are goats! No swans, but goats. And bison. But the goats made me laugh. I had forgotten about the goats and Matt, poor Matt, takes quite a ribbing from his teammates about the goats. I'm trying not to spoil what happens but I think you'll laugh too."Odin's Ravens" is fast-paced, thrilling, humorous, and a wonderful update of Norse mythology. Get the first book, if you haven't already, and enjoy reading about the end of the world.
