Terrific hornbook source of information to accompany the casebook for the class. This cleared up some finer points on the law, and is worth the cost for every law student to purchase aside from the copy that will exist in the library.

If you really want to understand real estate transactions and have a solid contact, this book should be very helpful to you.

Great book at giving a thorough explanation of property law. I'm keeping this book even though the class is over.

I would probably give it 5 stars if I were able to read it in its entirety.I enjoy Stoebucks style and prose

#23,001 in Books (See Top 100 in Books)

This book is for someone ready to “do the work.”The questions range from predictable (“What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail?”) to the unexpected, but often even the questions I expected had extra coaching and facets brought into play. For example, “List the five accomplishments that fill you with the most pride. Keep in mind that sometimes the most fulfilling things bring little recognition and yield no monetary results. So be honest— you’re not in a job interview; you’re on a quest to discover purpose.”I appreciate the direction present to consider what we’d cut as much as what we desire and pursue. I feel that all are important to narrowing (and understanding) our focus.Sometimes prompts could mean different things for different readers. For example, “What experiences today made you most-relate to the statement, ‘Well, that went well.’? Reflect on what led to that result and that feeling.”This is frequently a sarcastic comment in our household, so the heading -Small Victories- was necessary to determine the intended focus on the question.Of course none of these variants is insurmountable, or even that distracting; these are just examples of things that made me pause and go, Hmmm. One of the surprise questions that made me pause came under the heading, “What’s tugging at you?”:“A restless heart and mind may be trying to send a message. If you’re having a difficult time falling asleep, what is keeping you up?”I liked the times the “after [filling out this journal] life” was hinted at. In the values section, for example, there was room made to tie action steps to specific values.I wanted to hold this review back to four stars, because however much quality we find in the questions, the goal of a work like this is (ultimately) application, and this journal ends with mere hints about how to close that circle, namely seeking for overlap or themes in the answers a reader recorded. At the same time, it’s true there’s no magic bullet, and giving the reader a clear picture of the bullseye is beyond the scope of this book— not part of its purpose. Its purpose, which I believe it fulfills admirably, is to launch the engaged reader/participant toward their next path of growth.(Thanks to the publisher and Net Galley for the digital review copy)

***THIS BOOK WAS RECEIVED FROM A GOODREADS GIVEAWAY***A few years ago, I had heard a little snippet about Ikigai and thought it was a great way to focus a person's life. Essentially, Ikigai is the Japanese concept that combines four qualities of a person's passion and concentrates them into a productive and meaningful life. The four tenets of Ikigai are the things a person loves, the talents where the person excels, the individual's worldview, and a recognition of where the person can make a difference in the world. At the center of all four of these ideas is the concept of Ikigai. This book is a handy journal that provides some exercises for the reader to help them consider these aspects of their life and how they can find their Ikigai. Each page either has an encouraging quote that ties to one of the four Ikigai pillars or a question for the reader to fill in an answer that will help them understand their Ikigai a little better. The style and aesthetic of this book is relatively chic, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. While this journal is likely meant to be used on a daily basis, a dedicated reader can probably fill it out in a couple of hours. My one qualm with this journal is that it didn't guide the reader toward their Ikigai. I already had a bit of a sense of what my Ikigai was, but since the four parts are a little disjointed, it would be hard to pick it out if you didn't already know it. I think it would have helped to have a summary after each section to then pick the strongest element of a person's life that meets the definition of one of the four pillars of Ikigai, so that way the reader could reach the end of the journal and have a reasonably certain understanding of their Ikigai. An aesthetically chic journal to help the reader find their purpose in life, I give My Little Ikigai Journal 4.0 stars out of 5.

I can't even begin to tell you how much I love My Little Ikigai Journal. Everything in this very short book has help create a better structure for not only me but children. The questions you can answer with as much depth as you want. I enjoy all the creative ways for finding "reason for being."Its a perfect journal to buy for those who are struggling life with changes that bring them away from the reason for being. This is an inspired Journal that everyone should own and work on during their daily joys and struggles.Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher Castle Point Books for the advance copy of My Little Ikigai Journal

I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway. For some reason there was a problem (which has never happened before, by the way) and it took quite awhile to reach me...I was sitting on the edge of my seat the whole time, I was so excited to get this book! It is FANTASTIC. First off the size of the book is PERFECT to stick in your purse or a coat pocket to take with you anywhere....which is what I suggest you do. To get the most out of this charming and profound little journal grab whatever moments you have to jot down the answers to these simple questions that will lead you towards a clearer understanding of your path. You dont even have to write down everything, the questions presented will make you THINK about yourself and what makes you....you. And that in itself is the process and the progress. (There is ample room to provide detailed written answers if that is more your style.) This would make a perfect gift for people of all ages just make sure you grab a copy for yourself.

I adore the story of FBI Agent Jules Cassidy and Robin Chadwick -- those characters are amazing and their story is everything I could hope. As a reader, I would follow them anywhere. The setting and the suspense of the story are also incredible. So I give the book 5 stars, though I was less enamored of the story of Ric and Annie -- thought there needed to be more character development there. It might just be my own preferences. But this book is one that stays on my shelf to read over and over when the mood hits me to return to this universe.

First, let me say I think Brockmann is one of the very best writers of romance out there. Her characters have depth, she understands motivation, and is a really good stylist, given the genre. I just discovered her about two months ago, and I've plowed through the entire Troubleshooters series in record time. Now I'm rereading my favorites. Loved Sam, liked Alyssa (she's less developed as a character, but I love the sharpshooting angle), loved Max and Gina, Stan and Teri, Tom and Kelly. Less thrilled with Joan, from Into the Night--I thought she was pretty unlikable as a character, and the romance with Muldoon wasn't really believable. Too much attitude, not enough heart, I thought. My favorite of all the stories, I think, is Hot Target, because I loved both Jane and Cosmo to pieces and I adore Jules. I think he's humane, smart, and as confused about things as most of us are. I can tell the author has a real soft spot for him, too--not surprising given that hr beloved son is gay. I have no problem with gay characters and romances--love comes in all shapes, sizes and seasons. What I was REALLY disappointed in in this book was the hetero romance. Neither Ric nor Annie seemed real or even interesting to me. Ric's a latin hunk, Annie has a wide caboose. That's all I remember about either of them. Frankly it seems that they are only there to provide hetero "cover" of Brockmann's real interest: Jules and Robin. I suspect the Jules-Robin story was the one she really wanted to tell, and Ric-Annie were just place-holders. They were nowhere near as developed as any of her other characters, and when you take away the SEAL/Troubleshooter context, there wasn't much to interest me about their story at all. BORING. I sincerely hope she banishes them to the hinterlands of the Troubleshooters world. I am much more interested in Sophia-Decker-Dave, or maybe Gilligan or Lopez...anything but these two! That said, a few words about Jules and Robin and her handling of the gay love affair. I love them both as characters, and I'm looking forward to their nuptials (yeah, I really don't get why people are so wiggy about gay marriage. Committed relationships make for stable societies. Ergo, more of them are good. Get over it). My only objection: why do all the gay characters have to be so gorgeous? This is a real stereotype--surely there are gay men who are average-looking. I mean, there are. I know some. I guess she's trying to hold feminine interest by describing their perfect cheekbones and ripped abs, but really, come on. One of my favorite stories was about Stan and Teri--perfect woman and homely guy who's so much more inside. Can't she do that with gay characters as well? Well, that said, I can't wait to read more about the Troubleshooters and their world. Maybe Ric and Annie can spend the next few books in "an undisclosed location," though!

Force of Nature, like other Brockmann novels from her Troubleshooters series is totally engaging. She has a way of introducing characters that you find out you already know. The characterizations are very real and true even when their abilities exceed credulity, you believe them. In this novel, the main protagonists are antagonistic for a reason we women encounter too often, an over-protective man.Happily, Annie will pretty much go ahead and do what she needs to do in spite of Ric's over-bearing protection. She makes the developing romance a joy to watch. The story that develops around the romance is yet another nail-biter for the reader. One thing you will see over and over in my reviews is that any of these books that include FBI agent Jules Cassidy is made richer thereby. His story line is that he is unapologetically himself, good-looking, competent, and, oh by the way, gay. His story line always adds to the main story line in a way that is not intrusive. I have got to say he is my favorite of a cast of a much beloved cast of characters. Read all of these books or some of them in order or no order. It doesn't really matter. You will simply be going for a fun and glorious ride.

I enjoyed this book very much. There is a lot of suspense, a lot of sexual attraction, scary bad guys, and a couple of great love stories.Ric Alvarado, an ex-cop in Sarasota, Florida introduced in an earlier book, got his own story. He's a loveable character. Happily, he's sexy, too. I like the heroine, Annie Dugan, too. No Barbie doll, Annie's strong and tough, smart and loyal.Jules Cassidy and Robin Chadwick are reunited in their on-going story. Martell Griffin, Ric's ex-partner on the police force, is another interesting character. I hope to see him again in a later story.Although there is a terrorist threat, this book is SEAL free, and I love the SEAL stories, but still, this is an awesome read. The Troubleshooter series does not disappoint.Shelley Dawn, author of Sweet, Sweet Jessie and Dark Nights

Every book this woman writes I read. This book was long awaited. Jules finally gets his happily ever after with the man he has been in love with for quite a few books. Jules is probably my favorite character in the series because he isn't perfect but happy with who he is. I love that he is this strong FBI agent and that everyone looks up to him, but he is also human and doesn't see himself as a hero even though that is what he is in all of the books.

A Drifting Life, by Yoshihiro Tatsumi

From Publishers Weekly

Tatsumi revolutionized manga in the 1950s, inventing gekiga—seething, slice-of-life stories about emotional crises. In this elephantine memoir (in which he barely disguises himself as Å“Hiroshi Katsumi), he tells the story of his early years in the comics business, from his teenage obsession with entering postwar magazines' reader-cartoon contests and poring over Osamu Tezuka's comics to the brief late-'50s heyday of the gekiga workshop over which he presided. It's also a history of Japan in that era, filtered through Tatsumi's own experience—the sound of cicadas is a recurring symbol of portentousness—and packed with digressions on cartooning technique, the movies and prose fiction that inspired him, and his nervous flirtations with women; the passage of time is marked by illustrated factoids about each year's headlines. Tatsumi's visual technique is very much a product of an earlier generation—his characters' faces are simple, broad caricatures—but the mastery he's gained in half a century of cartooning comes through in his immaculate staging and composition. Readers curious about Japanese comics history may find the book's wealth of detail fascinating; for the most part, though, Tatsumi's vivid, graceful dramatizations of the period's shifting business and creative alliances don't quite justify the tedious, repetitive hybrid of bildungsroman and industry time line he's created. From School Library Journal

Grade 10 Up–This is a masterfully drafted autobiographical work by the creator of Good-bye (2008) and Abandon the Old in Tokyo (2006, both Drawn & Quarterly). Referring to himself as Hiroshi, Tatsumi begins his story with the surrender of Japan after World War II, when he was 10 years of age, and details the following 15 years of his life. Deeply passionate about manga at a young age, he chronicles the time from his start as an enthusiast to his rise as an influential and celebrated author/illustrator of the format. Although this book centers primarily on Tatsumi's writing career, the history of manga, influential writers and publications of the time, and the turbulent manga publishing industry, much more is revealed. Family life and dynamics influenced by his parents' troubled marriage, his father's financial difficulties, and his friendship and rivalry with his brother are explored, first sexual interests and experiences are considered, and relationships among fellow artists are skillfully portrayed. Historical political and cultural events are introduced throughout the story, giving readers a feel for Japan's climate and social landscape during the period. Black-ink images in a combination of detailed/realistic panels mixed with cartoon-style artwork enhance the atmosphere and bring the characters to life. This is a captivating autobiography, and one that should have high appeal to those interested in the history of manga and Japanese culture, and followers of Tatsumi's works.–Lara McAllister, Halifax Public Libraries, Nova Scotia END

For those who follow the work of Yoshihiro Tatsumi, this book is a treat. It's a wonderful manga memoir that took almost 10 years to create. The main protagonist is no other than Yoshihiro himself, using another name of Hiroshi Katsumi. In this book, he explores the journey he took to become a manga artist. It's an inspiring tale that looks into his relationship with his family, friend, fellow manga artists and publishers. The book title is apt as we see how Katsumi "drifts" along in his life, making the numerous career moves. Most of the time, you'll feel the doubt and uncertainty as he felt within the panels. The book, at over 800 pages, is smartly inserted with historical events to portray the passing of time. It starts in 1948 and ends, a bit abruptly, in 1960 where Katsumi took part in the demonstration against the Security Treaty. Throughout the book, we also learn how manga has evolved and affected the artists.I'll recommended this book to anyone who wishes to know Yoshihiro Tatsumi a little better, or a little bit of Japanese manga history.(More pictures are available on my blog. Just visit my Amazon profile for the link.)

There have been many attempts at autobiographical graphic novels, Binky Brown and I Saw It among the earliest and Maus the best-known. I think it's fair to say that only fans of the genre and people interested in the specific issues explored were enthusiastic about these books.Yoshihiro Tatsumi has created something totally different, a memoir that speaks to everyone, in totally original form. He tells an absorbing story using a few simple words and a few simple lines. He uses panels to pace the story, to focus details, to show facial expression, to convey emotion; in ways distinct from written autobiographies, but also distinct from film-makers, painters, photographers and anyone else who ever tried to use art to convey the feeling and meaning of a life.I feel the reviewers complaining about the lack of depth are missing the point. The author's technique cannot go below the surface, he's drawing pictures. He can use those pictures to suggest depths, but not to explore them. A writer can spend thousands of words (or more) describing internal psychological states or conveying depth in other ways. Other graphic novelists, and also film-makers and painters, attempt to do the same by leaving realism behind or by including a lot of detail. Tatsumi confines himself to simple realism, but realism as perceived at the time, and stripped down to essential lines. He tells us what he saw and leaves it to us to imagine what went on below (and above, and before, and after). To take one example, a historian might want to know the name and background of the waitress in the restaurant beneath his apartment who tries to seduce him with comic results. An artist might paint a haunting evocation of youth and inexperience and lust. Tatsumi draws her as he saw her, essentials only, few facts and no reliable ones. Was she young and pretty, confident and cheerful, hardworking and promiscuous? We know he thought so at the time, nothing more, but also nothing less. He conveys the episode not in one detailed picture, but in a dozen quick sketches, with word balloons and backdrops. In this way we learn about his life in a different manner than any previous autobiographical work of art, we learn different aspects than we have ever encountered. This is not only a book for Manga fans. It's a story anyone can understand. The pain of having your ideas ignored or misunderstood. The pleasure of winning some degree of acceptance, and the frustration when others twist it for their own ends (but at the same time, the temptation of letting them do it, to gain recognition and money at the expense of artistic purity). The complex personal relationships, often searing, sometimes wondrous. The ups and downs of collaboration. The enigma of other people, those we love, those we respect and those we fear. All this with a backdrop of Japanese history and culture, a boy growing up, and an art form evolving. This is an extraordinary masterwork. It takes only a couple of hours to read and you will be drawn into it in a different manner from anything else you've ever experienced.

The concept of "A Drifting Life" couldn't be simpler: The life story of one of the early masters of manga, told (of course) as a manga. But it ends up being far more than that. Among other things, it's a panoramic action shot of postwar Japan, and a meditation (I know how pretentious this sounds, but it can't be helped) on the power of art to transform one's life. And it's gorgeously drawn, but more than that, it's drawn in ways that keep the narrative moving for hundreds of pages. It's long, and it can be a bit difficult (especially for those of us who aren't Japanese), but it's hugely rewarding. Highly recommended.

I have loved everything about this book. Deeply personal semi-autobiagraphical memoir chronicling a man's passion for manga and creating them while also revealing their history. All against the backdrop of post WW2 Japan and an often hard And dysfunctional life. Brutally honest, hopeful and heartbreaking. As real as it gets and GREAT art,and storytelling. Artists of all sorts should appreciate it, seeing him go through the same kinds of struggles and feelings and commitment is inspiring and comforting. I don't know what people are rating it low against? What standard? This book is a classic work that can sit next to any other intellectual comic. Meaty and ripped out of his heart, served on a silver georgeously illustrated platter.

Although it has just come out and I've only read it once, I have no hesitation in saying that "A Drifting Life" is a manga classic. If you have read and enjoyed "Barefoot Gen," the more mature Tezuka works, or even newer manga like "Monster" or "Pluto" by Urasawa you need to check this out.The art is simple and easy to read. The story is engaging and interesting all the way through. It really left me wanting more - I read all 800+ pages in one weekend. You get to see how classic manga was made and get insight into the industry. This is not manga for kids. This is an intriguing story for adults. I would also recommend it to those who are new to manga/graphic novels because it is an extremely easy and intuitive read. Don't be intimidated by the page count. I read manga 5-10 times quicker than prose/regular books, and at least twice as quick as regular american comics.I hope he writes a sequel because I am interested to know what his life in manga was like after this book ends.

Chunks of pages would come out from the seams as I read. Not the best quality, but the grgaphic novel was interesting. A very cool memoir. There is nudity in illustrations.

Beautiful Darkness, by Fabien Vehlmann Kerascoët

From School Library Journal

Gr 9 Up—What starts as a common fairy tale trope—Prince Hector and Princess Aurora are having tea the day after a ball—quickly turns dark and disturbing. The prince is charming but self-absorbed, and the princess is somewhat flighty and unprepared, when the ceiling appears to fall in, and they find themselves in a dark forest filled with other refugees, all Borrowers-small. While Aurora and her friend Plim adapt to their surroundings, taking charge and feeding the others they have found, Hector is only concerned with staring into space. None of the characters notice the dead body that they are playing on and living around (a human-sized girl, also named Aurora), and do not question where the items they are using are from (quite possibly the corpse's purse). The forest's animals do not speak, distancing this from other fairy tales. The end does not find our characters rescued but living in the shack of a hermitlike human man, referred to as a giant. The artwork is cartoonlike and colorful, in contrast with the morbid and macabre tone. All of the protagonists are wide-eyed, though the animals and bodies are drawn realistically. Purchase where teens like their graphic novels and fractured fairy tales on the dark side.—Suanne B. Roush, formerly at Osceola High School, Seminole, FL

From Booklist

When Princess Aurora’s world implodes, she puts her courtship with the handsome prince aside to help make a life for herself and the other fairylike folk of her kingdom who inhabit this gorgeous, brutal book by award-winning French writer Vehlmann (Isle of 100,000 Graves, 2011). In scenes that mirror the worst of human behavior, the more Aurora blithely goes about putting things in order, the more those around her scheme, betray, belittle, and disregard everything our morality tells us the characters should care about. The delicate, haunting, and beautiful watercolor artwork by Kerascoët helps to enhance the fairy-tale setting, juxtaposing the small, petty characters perfectly against the lush blues, greens, and purples used to create the huge forest that surrounds them. The result is a story that shocks as it entertains and is predictably unpredictable. As the seasons turn and wide-eyed Aurora loses her amiable innocence, the reader is left not knowing whether to cry or cheer when Aurora finally decides she’s had enough. --Eva Volin

Beautiful Darkness begins with a bunch of adorable fairy-like creatures crawling out of the corpse of a young girl, which is lying on a forest floor. We don’t know what happened to the girl – murder? Freak accident? Heart attack? – but it doesn’t matter, because the girl’s corpse is just part the setting; the story belongs to the fairies, who are woefully unprepared for surviving in the material world. Most of the little fairies don’t seem to have much personality or emotional depth, to the point that they seem indifferent to each other’s deaths (and those deaths happen frequently). In most books that would be a flaw, but in Beautiful Darkness it seems intentional. My interpretation – and this is only my interpretation, the book would easily support other readings – the fairies are the characters from the stories the dead girl made up to tell herself, somehow able to escape into the real world upon the girl’s death. A few of the characters were major protagonists or villains, and those characters have more personality; in particular, the main character, Aurora, goes through amazing development and changes as the story goes on. Most of the other fairies were just simple background characters, and act like it.beautiful_pg28(About that name, “Aurora”: Early in the book, we see that the dead girl had a notebook with “Aurora” handwritten on the cover; I interpret this as meaning that this was the book the girl wrote stories about Aurora in, but I’ve seen other people suggest that the girl’s name was Aurora, and that the fairy Aurora is named that because represents the girls idealized self-image. Another possibility is that Aurora the fairy just named herself after the notebook.)This book is brutal, ambiguous, incredibly original, and stuck with me a long time after reading it.The artwork is excellent; Kerascoet (a pen name for a married pair of cartoonists, Marie Pommepuy and Sebastien Cosset) switches between a loose, airy cartoon style for the fairy-like creatures and impressive fully-painted realism for the big humans. (I’d find that sort of fully-painted realism heavy-handed and oppressive for a full comic, but here – used in brief passages interspersed throughout the book – it’s very effective at making the humans seem alien and often a bit threatening, and also quite beautiful to look at).

Fascinating story about a pixie klatsch living around the dead body of a little girl. What makes it interesting is that these creatures have the primary wants and needs of storybook forest fairies but the ethics of humans, which makes it surprisingly disturbing. It's like Animal Farm meets the Smurfs. Whereas storybook pixies tend to be faultless the pixies here are stupid, heartless, cruel, foolish, self-consumed, lazy, bored, and petty. In ways that are not cute at all. They think nothing of exploiting Aurora's naive industriousness or bowing down to the heartless Zelie because she's so beautiful and to do otherwise would bring their lives misery. Hector, the so-called Prince, is a navel-gazing moron and Plim, the capable right-hand man, is a bully as well as a toady. The pixies, if I interpret correctly, are all archetypes that scampered out of the girl (the original Aurora) after she was murdered and are gradually subsumed by the pixie Aurora. Fascinating and haunting. All of this is nothing new to humans. It's the art that makes this unique. It really is beautiful.

All things considered:- the art really is incredibly gorgeous.- the story and excecution is successful in that is GREATLY disturbed me, which is what it intended to do.- I think what keeps me from loving it is that at many points the characters are inconsistent: at many points it lost track of characters' motives and drives. For example, at some point they found something gross and then at another point they found something equivalent to be no biggie.- I think the author did a good job portraying cruelty but when no one around is bothered by it, it becomes banal and that detracts from the shock value. So yeah, I have mixed feelings.I'm also forever scared.

A wonderful story. Beware, when it says "Haunting" they really mean it's quite scary. This is not for your children as other reviewers have said! Definitely for teens or very mature/dark story loving preteens. This book really makes you wish for more, perfect marriage of cute, pretty art with dark, grim storytelling. The story starts off unassuming but beware, it gets good later on. As other reviewers have mentioned, this book is VERY French. The storytelling can seem aimless at times but it's more like a small collection of snippets from a long movie. Personally I love this style of comic but I can see why others wouldn't. They really got the child-like perspective down, very akin to Lord of the Flies. And even if you don't like the story, just look at that amazing art! Just wonderful watercolors.

Beautifully drawn and a wonderfully dark tale!I like to see it as the girl is society and the sprites and fairies are the citizens. Society crumbles and the people are left to fend for themselves. It's a very creative way to portray an end of the world scenario. Some are naiive, some are compassionate, some are loners, some are survivors, some are selfish, some are blindingly stupid. Just like real life if our typical lifestyle was thrust into chaos.

This is a difficult book to finish. The story, which starts out silly and light-hearted, takes dark turn after dark turn, as little faery-type creatures are driven out of their home into the human world where, in the presence of a rotting corpse, their society rots away too. It's a tale reminiscent of "Lord of the Flies" filled with casual violence, cruelty and madness. There is betrayal after betrayal, some expected, some horrifyingly sudden and unexpected."Beautiful Darkness" is a story to be read and reread. It's a cautionary tale as much as it is pure horror.

This is the incredible story of one woman's incarceration in prison in Iran for no reason whatsoever. Even though she had an Austrian mother and an American passport, Haleh Esfandiari was arrested, detained and ultimately imprisoned simply because she worked for an organization that promoted better understanding and relations between Iran and the United States. For months she lived in solitary confinement and was subjected to relentless interrogation by officials who were determined to establish proof of a plot to overthrow the Iranian government. This is a fascinating look at how the Iranian government and Intelligence service keeps their citizens in line through fear and intimidation, how the ultra-conservative clergy maintain power by suppressing freedom, and how the United States government has squandered countless opportunities to improve relations between the two countries. This is a must-read for anyone who wants a better understanding of Iranian culture and the policies that continue to prevent peace.

I have always enjoyed true stories, but so often they're not written well, especially when it's a memoir. That wasn't the case here. From the moment her car was ambushed to her arrest and eventual release, I felt like I was right there with her.I chose this book partly because the story appealed to me but mostly because of the setting, Iran. My late-grandfather worked for the airlines and was always being sent to different places around the world. My mother even graduated high school in Kenya! But, like this author, my late-grandmother worked for a newspaper in Tehran though as a proofreader. They and my 2 uncles and aunt were evacuated when Ayatollah Khomeini returned.

I found this book highly informative. I didn't know a lot about the history in Iran including relations with the US. It was a little confusing going back and forth between time periods. It was also an eye opener to see how unfair the justice system is in other parts of the world.

In this extremely well-written and inspiring book, Haleh Esfandiari succeeds in involving the reader emotionally in a compelling story. Methodically she recounts the intrictate details of the questioning sessions which followed her harrowing experience that began with a robbery on her way to the airport and continued all through her imprisonment at the notorious Evin Prison. Through her account, one is familiarized with the savage and irrational conduct of a theocracy which considers itself only answerable to god. This is not only an account of intimidation, threats and psychological pressure but also a story of a glorious and indomitable spirit that refuses to be broken despite the unbearable pressures. In fact, it is a vivid testimony to the courage and fortitude of the Iranian women who have been at the vanguard of the movement fighting to liberate Iran from this scourge.

I always have such a curiosity about what it is really like in other countries. We so sorely take our freedoms for granted. We forget that other countries are not like ours. We are so blessed and don't even know it . thank you author for presenting this to us in a way that we can see the dominating powers of some of the country's. Fully recommend this book.

This is a difficult reading from my point of view because it pulls me in several ways at once. My compassion for those under political arrest, or held against their will for political reasons, and my anger that so many suffer silently and are not in the eye of media and cannot be helped. However I learned a lot from reading this story of strength and fortitude.

Very interesting account of Ms. Esfandiari's lengthy and scary ordeal with the Iranian government, including a lot of history about Iran, which I found a bit tedious, but many readers would just love. I recommend this book and it was well-written, descriptive, and easy to read.

This is far less a memoir about the woman's struggles and time of imprisonment than it is a very long, very dry political and historical discourse.I have shipped many, many pages, as it's simply not of interest to me. It's not the story the description promises at all.
