A very interesting and thorough book that covers all kinds of ways to decorate fabric emphasizing layering techniques. My favorite chapters were on mono printing with gelatin, discharging, and rubbing. Would like to see a more current, revised edition which includes Gelli Arts Gel Plates, deColourant discharge products and PhotoEZ Silkscreens (all available on Amazon). I noticed this book was published in 2008 which would explain why most of these products weren't mentioned. The gelatin method could be done much easier with the reusable Gel Plates which are easy to clean and store. And the deColourant discharge products are much nicer than the ones mentioned in the book. The Thermofax info is a bit outdated (and hard to find any more) and could be replaced with PhotoEZ Silkscreens.Other than some of the products mentioned being a bit outdated, I really liked the book. Would be great for beginners to fabric design or people looking for new ideas to be more creative. I would recommend the book overall and am happy to add it to my library of fabric design books.Inkjet Printable Cotton Fabric 25-Sheet PackdeColourant Plus Metallic Assortment 3-Pak, 2.5 oz ea.Vintage Butterflies-2 Small PhotoEZ Silkscreen

I had the pleasure of meeting Rayna Gillman at a Quilting in the Desert in Phoenix this year. After seeing a gorgeous sampling of the work completed by her students, I was sorry that I had not enrolled in Gillman's class. After arriving home I did the next best thing by purchasing this how-to guide for using a variety of surface design techniques. I already possess a number of works in this area, but not so comprehensive and inspiring as this author has placed in one publication. Someday, when in a convenient location, I will manage to enroll in one of Gillman's classes, but until then this book is a more-than sufficient resource.

Packed full of ideas and techniques for textile printing. Economical, Mcguiverish tips for stamps, stencils, print plates and resists for those of us who work outside the box. A nice quick reference for someone with some textile marking knowledge or an eye opening adventure for someone considering joining the textile artist ranks.

I love, love, love this book!Every bit of information is clear and directions for the various techniques are well written and easy to follow. The photos illustrating the instructions are exceptionally clear. And the photos of Rayna's and other artist's fabrics are inspirational.I live in Cleveland and there is a lack fiber arts teachers traveling through here, so I buy a lot of books. This is my most used book. It is what it says it is and now I'm creating fabric that I absolutely love. There aren't that many rules in Rayna's methods, which also makes it a great deal of fun!I'll be taking a class from Rayna, the first opportunity that I get!

I haven't actually tried any of the techniques in the book yet (I live in an apartment with no washer and have messy project issues), but the information included was extensive and easy to understand. The other printing on cloth books I own were, well, prissy. The techniques in here look like they would give a lot of depth to fabric and most look easy enough to use on yardage for garment construction. The author is correct; I'm now looking at discards everywhere as potential printing tools.

Love Rayna Gilman and really enjoyed her class from her other book Free Form Quilts. She has a freeing approach to all things fabric that improves your art work and perspective while making what can be difficult fun.

Great tutorial and reference book for learning a variety of surface design methods.

LOVE THIS BOOK. I FEEL LIKE THIS BOOK WAS WRITTEN FOR ME. SHE MAKES EACH TECHNIQUE SO EASY TO DO. THIS IS MY GO TO GUIDE.
