Christmas gift to 10 year old granddaughter. Next thing I know, she's sending me pictures of her first dinner for the family!! The grin on her face was ear to ear!! Even the picky sister loved the dinner. Now that's a compliment!! Great investment for this Grandma, when I visit, I know I'll be eating good!!!
I was hoping for the red and white check cookbook my sister and I had as kids! We still have fond memories and still make some of the dishes that we "know by heart". I was a little disappointed in this book (especially the paper it's printed on) but hopefully the 10 yr old I bought it for will love it!
In 1972 my mother gave me the Betty Crocker New Boys and Girls Cookbook and a set of Tupperware measuring cups as a birthday gift and forty years later I still have, and use, both. I was looking to purchase a cookbook for a young family member and thought about the most recent edition of the book I have, but it just seems outdated - the pictures still belong in the 1950's. This Betty Crocker Kids Cookbook appeared to be a more modern choice, so I bought it instead. Leafing through it quickly I see a couple of old favorites among the newer recipes, but am a little disappointed that in total it has far fewer offerings than the older book I mentioned. The pages are colorful and will probably appeal to young children, but for me, the dark backgrounds make them a little hard to read. I'm also a little disappointed that the spiral binding is attached to cardboard which is glued to the inside of the cover and will probably come loose over time. So, do I like it as well as the Betty Crocker children's cookbook my mother bought for me many, many years ago? No. Do I think today's young chefs will enjoy it? Yes.
This is a great cookbook for beginning chefs. Fun, colorful, easy to follow. (Bonus: Nana gets yummy, homemade treats!) There seems to be two versions of this cookbook by the same title and this crazy monster one is the winner for us. Unfortunately, think it's only available used and ours came with a page torn out and the cover heavily damaged, despite being described as "Good" condition, so beware.
I just posted almost this exact review for another kids cookbook, because while they're very different in content, both (the other is "Kids Fun and Healthy Cookbook") are really GOOD cookbooks :)The recipes are simple, but create actual meals to be enjoyed by adults, too.I'm very happy with my decision and recommend both books to anyone undecided. As we continue to see, a lot of what we've been eating in recent years is just NOT good for us.
I got this when my child was about 4 yrs old and 2 years later we still enjoy making food together. Yes, it is super basic which I NEED !!! I am not a great cook. I love the set up...ingrediants....things you need in a simple form. The pictures are great. We have make the turkey pinwheels for a b-day party and it was a huge hit. Also, we've made the smoothie, choc chip muffins and more. Everything tastes good and provides a good basic recipe that you can alter if you want to; for example if you want blueberry muffins instead. This is something that we both enjoy doing together. I only wish some of the recipes were healthier w/ more fruit & vegetables in them. Provided years of enjoyment. THanks!! BETTER THAN ALL THE OTHER KIDS COOKABOOKS
This cookbook is perfect...organized well by food types (salads, meats, vegetables, sandwiches, single dish recipes, desserts, fun things to make). I bought it for my granddaughter who just turned 7 yrs old. It is easy enough for her to follow directions, great pictures, and MANY recipes, as well as a learning section about proper methods of measuring, conversion of measurements, using equipment used in the kitchen, seasonings, and eating a balanced diet. She already has made many of the recipes...and has had fun time with her mommy in the kitchen. Even her 12 year old brother borrowed the cookbook to make a spaghetti meal with her for the family. If you are looking for a kids's cook-book, this one is a winner.
A gift to our granddaughter. Mom and grandma are not allowed to use this cookbook. If we want a recipe from it she will make it for us. Has really helped her confidence in the kitchen.
