I LOVED this book! Morgan needs a vacation and when the writer's blocked author gets an invitation to a small town for a book signing, she can't resist. Her dead fiance's partner who is also her best friend, Tyler, doesn't want her to go, something just feels off. She starts on her vacation and right when she is getting to her destination, she hits a man in the middle of the road! When he runs away, she is shaken and she hurries to report it. She meets the town sheriff, mayor, deputies and they all seem to be good but is the town what it seems? The more she sees, the more suspicious she becomes.I loved Morgan. She was a smart, hurt, loving, caring woman. She has tried to close her heart off so she won't be hurt again but already Tyler is in there, she cares for the bed and breakfast owner's daughter completely! Tyler is amazing. Strong, stable, safe, protective...men like him are rare. It isn't shocking that Morgan has issues with God after all that has happened, but yet she doesn't ever believe he doesn't exist and I thought that was great. The town was Perfect, a bit surreal, creepy and strange and written perfectly.I rate this a 5/5. It was a great book!Thank you to the author for the review copy of this book. I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.
I am going to be perfectly honest and say that I did not know what to expect when I sat down to read this book. Being new at reviewing books, I kept as open a mind as possible, and was thoroughly and pleasantly surprised.I instantly was able to feel a connection with the main character, Morgan Blake, who is a published author who hits a terrible snag and a raging case of writers block. Her fiance, a police officer, was killed in the line of duty two years prior, and she just has not been able to get back in the saddle again. I am an aspiring author myself, and have felt the pains of writer's block too many times to count. To me, this helped make the story seem real.Everyone knows one of those quiet, happy and pleasant on the surface kind of small towns. We have all visited one at one point or another in our lives, I am sure, and the realism in this novel is astounding. The level of detail in the story made me more able to feel as though I was there, living through the events with the characters. I just could not walk away. When Morgan received an invitation to a book signing in small town West Virginia, to a town called Perfect, she thinks this is the answer to her prayers, but little did she know the dangers and challenges that would await her.The degree of suspense in this novel kept me coming back, and I could not seem to walk away. I spent several hours locked into the story and every time I had to put it down, I could not keep from wondering what mystery the characters would uncover next!Through the many twists and turns in this novel, you learn to remember that nothing is EVER as it seems on the surface, and taking things at face value may not be the best way to go. This is definitely one of the best things I have read in quite a while, and I cannot wait to see what else this promising author has in store. I am truly glad I read "The Trouble With Perfect" and have been introduced to a new author and a whole new class of novel!
I have read many of this author's books and really enjoyed them all so I settled back for a good book and I was not disappointed! The story begins with Morgan leaving for a book signing in West Virginia, her detective friend, Tyler, does not want her to go as she doesn't know the name of the town but she has directions and is determined to go and actually stay in the area for a few days to see if she can get over her writers block. Before Morgan even gets to town something happens to get her visit off to a bad start. There is no cell phone connections and the towns phone system is down due to a storm. She is unable to call her friend Tyler as promised which, of course, gets Tyler worried. She learns the town's name is Perfect and the more she sees and the more people she meets it seems to be a "perfect" name. Then somethings start to both her and she begins to question theShieff and others in the town.I really enjoyed this book and recommend it to any one who enjoys mystery, romance and belief in God in their books!
Morgan is struggling. Life has been hard since her fiance died and now she is suffering with a serious writing block. After receiving an invitation to do a book signing in a quaint little mountain town in West Virginia, Morgan decides that a quiet little vacation is just what she needs and where better to have it than a place called Perfect. However, after being involved in an accident on the way where a man was hit and ran off, she begins to see things in the picturesque little town a bit different. Something is wrong. Something sinister lurks behind Perfect's happy exterior.
I really like Christy Barritt's writing style and her characters. Believable story lines and I love how she weaves God into the lives of her characters. The Trouble with Perfect didn't disappoint. Although I wasn't totally surprised at the way it ended, I really liked how she got there - and there were aspects that I never suspected. Won't go into those because I don't want to ruin it for those who haven't read it yet. I'm still waiting for next "Squeaky Clean" to be released. That series is my favorite!! But then again, I haven't read all of them yet. Working on that.
